Choosing a server (VPS) for algo trading in India

A VPS is a small rented computer in a data centre that stays on all day. A trading system belongs on one because it must not depend on your laptop, your home power or your home internet, and because a VPS has the fixed internet address brokers now ask for with API orders. A small server is enough for a system that follows your own rules.

What to look for

Why not my own computer?

A laptop sleeps, restarts for updates and loses its connection. A home address usually changes unless you pay your provider for a static one. A server avoids all of this, and you can still reach your dashboard from your phone anywhere.

What we set up on it

The trading system, a private dashboard only you can open, alerts to your phone, and encrypted backups. You can remove our access at any time and the system keeps running. Server rent is paid by you to the hosting company; prices are theirs and change, so we give you the current figure before you decide.

Common questions

What is a server, and who pays for it?

A server is a small computer rented by the month from a hosting company. It stays on all day so your system never depends on your phone or laptop. You rent it in your own name and pay the hosting company directly. We tell you the right size on the call.

Can you get into my server?

Only with access you give us for installation and support. You can remove that access at any time.

What happens if the server or the internet goes down?

The system alerts you when something fails and again when it is fixed. How open positions are protected during an outage, for example by stop orders held at the broker, is part of your rules and is agreed during the build. You should always be able to act through your broker's own app.

Are there other costs?

Your server rent and your broker's charges, both paid by you directly to them. Taxes are extra where applicable. We tell you all expected running costs before you pay anything.
